Equipment Insurance

Equipment Insurance

Overview

Could you perform without your equipment or computer?

For most ASHA members, the answer is “NO”!

That’s why protecting your equipment can be a smart way to protect your ability to earn an income at the same time. Too many rely on homeowners or renters insurance if something happens to their equipment. But that’s often a mistake because those types of plans generally only cover a small portion of the cost to replace your equipment. Sometimes they’ll cover nothing at all. Why? Because they consider it to be business equipment.

The ASHA Equipment Protection Program gives you the coverage you need and has a low deductible of $250 per claim. The Plan pays to replace your covered equipment when it’s lost, damaged or stolen. PLUS, it even covers the cost of renting equipment to help you avoid losing income when you’re waiting for new equipment.

FAQs

Answers about the plan, including eligibility, options, enrollment, customer service and more.

  • How can I learn more about this plan?

    1. Visit the DOWNLOAD FORMS section and download the pdf version of the Sample Policy based on your state of residence.
    2. Call us (for more immediate help) or email us using the information in the Contact Us section.
  • Do I have to insure all my equipment?

No. You insure only what you want. That's an important advantage because if you work for a firm, you may already have coverage for equipment that is kept on premises. Once that equipment is moved off premises, however, it may no longer be covered. Since this plan covers your equipment no matter where they’re located*, you can purchase it to protect only the pieces you take off premises.
  • What if new equipment is purchased?

When equipment is newly acquired, there is automatic supplemental coverage for up to 60 days from the date of purchase. It is strongly recommended that you notify AMBA of the newly acquired equipment immediately, or at least within 45 days of the date it was acquired, and prior to the expiration date of the policy.  The full additional premium amount is due when the new item is reported and is due from the date acquired.

Prior to the item’s addition to the policy schedule, and during the supplemental coverage period, the most the policy will pay for any loss is the least of the value of covered property as described in the Valuation section of the coverage form; or $25,000.

  • If there is a covered claim for an item that must be replaced, is the replacement value of the equipment paid?

Yes, replacement value is based on the replacement cost without any deduction for depreciation and will be paid if the insured amount for the item is equal to or greater than the replacement value.  Reference the Sample Policy for specific coverage details (see the Download Forms menu). Policy language varies in the states of California, Louisiana, and Washington.

In addition, we recommend reviewing your equipment schedule annually to make sure that your equipment is insured at the most current, appropriate values.

  • Is there coverage if an insured item is loaned to someone else?

Yes, the policy should provide coverage, however, to best protect yourself, it is highly encouraged to ask the person to whom you are lending to add the item to their policy and add you as a loss payee for that item.
  • Is there coverage for equipment I am borrowing?

When you borrow someone’s equipment, then you must add the item to your policy and add the owner as a loss payee on your policy for that item. Then, if you lose or damage it, the policy covers the cost to repair or replace it.
  • Can office equipment be insured?

Office equipment is not designed to be covered under this policy. If you’re looking to insure an office space, a business owner’s policy may be a better fit.
  • Will my Professional Liability insurance policy cover my equipment?

No, your professional liability insurance policy does not cover the costs for lost, damaged or stolen equipment.
* Scheduled property is covered only within the United States of America, its territories and possessions, Canada, and Puerto Rico. In addition, when left in an unattended vehicle, the vehicle must be locked with windows closed.
